In the classroom
One of my biggest passions these past 10 years has been to teach. I particularly enjoy teaching design to my students. I try to incorporate it as much as I can into my lessons. Check out some of my students’ work!
5th grade podcast.
One of my favorites lessons this year. I had my students write, record and produce a podcast. They also designed their covers. I designed the presentation. This project took around 6 weeks to complete. I had a total of 36 students complete it successfully.
School newspaper.
Another example of my students project. This time they designed and edited the newspaper from start to end. This project took around two weeks to complete .
What I’ve Learned From Being a Bilingual Educator

Empathy
The amount of connections and relationships I’ve built with my students have allowed me to develop empathy in many ways.
This empathy has allowed me to observe how my students learn, and led me to adapt my teaching style or curriculum to what will best help them learn. I have learned to effectively communicate with the students parents or advisors (or sometimes the students themselves) about their needs, their progress, and their successes. I’ve learned to advocate for the needs of my students in meetings—with parents and administrators.

Problem Solving.
As a teacher, I spent a considerable amount of my time creating instructional materials. I taught students who were learning English as well as Spanish, and so much of what I taught depended on visuals. This was specially challenging during the pandemic, but with a lot of practice I have learned to leverage visual design elements to increase accessibility, motivation, and comprehensiveness of a learning experience. I have also learned how to iterate on the go from one class period to the next.
